BIOFECTOR Project Overview
Reducing mineral fertilizers to improve soil and produce
With the ever-increasing need of food and feed on our planet, consistently fertile land and soils are inevitable to meet this demand. Mineral fertilizers have been the necessary tool for many decades to help farmers to harvest in required quantities. This application however has had negative effects in terms of quality of the produce as well as the soils which in turn is projected to be an increasing problem in the oncoming decades.
The European funded project BIOFECTOR, a diverse European consortium of 21 research organisations and SMEs has clearly spoken out their mission: reducing mineral fertilizers which are energy-intensive and environmentally problematic, by applying so-called “bio-effectors”. Can this pave the way forward to save our soils for future generations?
As one of the first activities, BIOFECTOR starts the installation of a public data base, collecting information on commercially available bio-effector (BE) products, as an information guide for farmers and scientists and a platform for producers to present their products, including also independent evaluations concerning the efficiency of the respective BEs.
However, the ambitious goal of a complete and reliable database can only be achieved in close cooperation with producers and distributors of bio-effector products. Therefore, we would kindly like to invite all producers and distributors to participate in this project. More information and a questionaire required for the registration of BE products for the data base are available as downloads below.
